cool temps means I gotta hike after work. Based on previous day forecast I thot it might be too windy so I didn't bring my change of clothes to work to hike Sunrise so I had to go home first. I took a 15 minute nap, changed clothes and headed to the North Mountain Visitors Center. Hadn't hiked this mountain since my heart issue but I felt confident everything is back to normal now that I got off that drug. As I headed south, the wind was blowing pretty good but once I turned west, the wind seemed to die down.

True to form going up the back section I huffed and puffed but could still keep up at a decent pace as I tackled the south side first. Recovery was back to normal as well. I saw hiker(s) here and there as I made my way up around the towers on the little butte (west) and then down and up the steep north section; still feeling spry. I did get to see a red-tailed hawk. I circled the towers, took some photos. The air was very clear today and I could see quite far in all directions. I looked down at the still yellow/green trees that lined the washes and to the NE the clouds were trying to create some kind of ruckus. I posted my status on that other website; don't know why I feel a desire to do that but I did. Guess I was feelin' good  .

And now down the hill I would go with a lilt in my step trying to keep up a good pace. I took off my hat and could feel my hair swaying in the wind. I'm growing my hair out for some reason and it is kind of a new sensation to feel its movement. I was thinking, this is probably what a child feels like when they first experience long hair  . Anyway, I think I like it. Not sure how long I will go yet; I know, I know, really TMI. I continued scampering down the mountain in great spirits even passing folks along the way before heading back south at the bottom, across the dam and back at the TH. I did stop for a moment to admire the sanctuary area as the the yellow blooms were still glowing on some of the trees. Plus I saw another rabbit just as I did on the way in.

I did lose my signal on HAZtraks but I think that's because I was trying to post my status. When I didn't hear a little birdie when I thot I should I quickly checked and HAZtraks had turned off; no problem, I would just adjust the route once it was loaded up. What I discovered though is the route recorded differently from the satellite view of the trail. Weird. So I adjusted part of it. Second, I ended up turning my phone off after being enroute for 5 minutes as I thot I was having battery issues. I adjusted the battery and then fired up HAZtraks; it started right where I left off.

Last, I feel negligent in looking at the photosets on HAZ; kind of feel like it's my duty. But believe it or not, I've actually been real busy at work (especially around tax time) and busy doing other stuff that I'm also behind on. So I apologize. Today however, I did finish up the 184 trip logs I was behind on.

just the palo verdes in waning bloom.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
