This was a short little trip out to Horton to test out some new gear before a bigger trip that was planned for the rest of the weekend. After finishing finals for the semester, me and my friend were itching to get out on the trail for some much needed de-stressing.

I had first used this trail as a bailout point along the Highline about a month ago after I thought it would be a good idea (against all conventional wisdom) to use a brand new pair of boots on a hike from the 260 Trailhead to Horton, and back. Needless to say, my feet suffered, and I had to walk out the easy way. ](*,)

Anyway, by the time we reached the trailhead after my friend's last final, it had become a night hike.

The parking lot was completely empty when we arrived, so we knew we had Horton all to ourselves! :y: I'm not sure if it was the weather that kept people away, or because it was a week night, but it was a stark contrast to the 30+ people I had encountered there a month ago.

We headed out with our headlights on, crossed the bridge, and started towards Horton. The trail was extremely easy to follow even with a half dead headlight for most of the way. There was one part where I felt like I had gotten off trail a little bit, but my GPS confirmed that I was still on trail, it was just a little hard to see the definition of it at night.

Before we knew it, we were at the Highline/Horton junction. We found a spot, setup camp, started a fire, and fell asleep soon after.

In the morning, I woke up to the sound of rain sprinkling on the tent. It didn't last long, and after it stopped, we both got out of our tents, broke camp, and headed back to the truck.

The area was very lush with green grasses and the occasional patch of wild flowers. Hiking to the spring isn't very challenging, and hiking out is essentially a stroll through the park.

This trail is a nice "quickie" as either a pleasant stroll through the woods or as shake down hike for testing out gear.
