| no partners | | Rolled in around noon on Friday to find families swimming in Tonto creek just below the bridge... Not a good sign for fishing in Tonto creek. I personally have lost 6-8 hooks or lures in that same small hole they were swimming in?
Anyway, I hiked up to my favorite campsite along Horton creek about 2 miles in. There was only one other occupied site so far along the trail in. The others filled up quickly in the afternoon while I fished. I actually saw several others fishing, although they were using spinning tackle and rooster tails. Not sure where or how they were casting those in a creek 4 feet wide? I managed to catch one brown trout before dark.
Saturday I worked my way upstream past the other campsites and I caught 4 throughout the day, all about the standard 8-10 inches long. Beautiful weather, warm, sunny, and no rain at all.
Horton never disappoints, for the distance from home, ease of parking, no bad roads, great campsites, and wild brown trout to boot. |
