The trail was a little hard to follow in places, but it's impossible to get lost, I've done this one enough to know where I am the entire way. At some points, I was just picking the easiest way through the snow while heading the right direction. Lots of downed trees across the trail, those were the hardest parts since the snow was almost hip deep while trying to get over/around them. Saw plenty of evidence of elk. There was only one set of footprints in the snow for the last 1/2 mile or so before the spring. Other than one time I hiked Horton in a snowstorm in the early 2000's, today was the least amount of people I'd seen on this trail. I'm glad we stuck with this one the entire way today, the views were well worth the effort. |
