| no partners | | Finally got back up here to finish off pretty much all of these trails in this area. I started from the Tom's Thumb Trailhead, headed east on the Marcus Landslide Trail, took the Rock Knob Trail north to the Gooseneck Trail north. From there I did a loop along the Saguaro Nest Trail, hitting the county park connector trails, back to the Gooseneck Trail on the west side of 128th St., and then back east and south on the Gooseneck to the trailhead.
I didn't see any other hikers, other than at the trailhead, probably everyone goes up to Tom's Thumb from there. Saw a few bikers, but not many. Kind of nice to have the trails mostly to myself with the weather getting warmer. I think by the time I was done, it had only hit the lower 90s.
I activated the voice feature of HAZTRKS for the first time. This turned out to be very useful because I found out that HAZTRKS mileage is exactly dead on with the odometer on my Oregon 450t. Final mileage for both was 11.0 miles, as the HAZ voice gave me the mileage ticker right as I got to my car. Once I saved the track on my GPS, it again took a little off, giving a total of 10.4 miles. Since the HAZ and my GPS odometer seem to be on the same page, I'm going to go with that distance as my official for now on. |
