Last week I did a quick hike in Scottsdale, next week is the Indian ruins in the Sierra Anchas, so this week we did a quick hike down by the Salt River. After next week, I'll have hiked three weekends in a row. That hasn't happened since after our last trip to Serbia in 2012 when I topped it off with my birthday weekend hike to Keet Seel.
We went with our friends Ryan and Nicole and their sons Ayden and Jack. We parked at the horse lot and went directly up the hill. I followed the alternate track I downloaded from HAZ, which took us down and made us make a few river crossings. I almost kept my feet dry until the last crossing, but after that it was only a half mile back to the car on the flat area. There are so many unofficial trails all through the riverside, there's plenty to go back and explore for another day. On our drive in we saw some people taking pictures from the roadside. I looked at where they were pointing their telephoto zoom lenses and saw a bald eagle sitting on a tree on the hillside. My camera was in the back, so I didn't get a chance to get a pic.
Stopped for some pizza for lunch afterwards on our way home. Nice family day hike. |
