| no partners | | This is a late post from out last hike during my visit to PA. We spent 2 days at my family's deer hunting camp in NW PA resting and getting away from the crowds and touristy stuff. On our second day, we took a ride into town and had lunch. Afterwards, we did a small section of the Clarion/Little Toby Trail. this trail is a multi-use trail, but pretty wide and mostly for bikes. It's 18 miles one way, connecting Ridgway and Brockway, and there are several trailheads along the way that allow you hike sections of it. We followed the trail to the first section and then turned back. The beginning part goes thru a neighborhood and past some semi-industrial area by the nearby creek. There was a nice waterfall in one area thru the shale and we also saw found some nice ripe raspberries and blackberries, which I always remember picking and eating during my childhood during our visits in this area at this time of year  .
HAZTRKS said we did a total of 2.7 miles, but the maps of the trail said where we stopped was only 0.9 miles from the terminus.
After our hike, we got some Chinese takeout to take back to camp for dinner, and also made an impromptu stop to get a dozen nightcrawlers to take my kids fishing. we didn't plan to fish during this visit, but noticed that my uncle had left his rod and some tackle in the camp. As luck would have it (that and the fact that I've fished this creek since I was in grade school ), the hole in the creek behind our camp had quite a few biting fish, and both Natasha and Dmitri each caught their first fish  !! Natasha even got a trout. The final tally for all of us out of that hole was 2 trout, one bass, and 3 or 4 chubs (related to carp). Things got even better, as afterwards, we saw a deer crossing the creek upstream from us. Pretty much a jackpot of an hour or so spent by the creek behind camp. Both kids said they look forward to going back during our next visit to PA. Mission accomplished. |
