| no partners | | Finally got a chance to take the family out for a hike since our July vacation. We were considering doing a local hike if the weather cooled down, but since that didn't really happen, I decided to finally take them out to the Sierra Anchas. From the Aztec TH, we took the Abbey's Way Trail up to Aztec Peak and took FR487 back down to the car.
As soon as we got out of the car, it was very noticeably cooler. The skies were mostly cloudy, with a few breaks of sunlight here and there. Every once in a while, there would be a little rain that would come down, but not enough to get us wet, and it stopped within a few minutes. Within the first quarter mile, I saw a deer dart across the trail, but too quickly for me to get a picture.
At the peak, we took in the views, walked up a couple flights of stairs on the fire tower, and had lunch at the Flintstone furniture. The wind was really strong there, and even more so at the edge of the lookout point. It got cold enough to have to put my hood for a bit and soak in all the cool air, which was a nice contrast from all the late summer heat in the Valley.
Just as we were about to leave and make our way down FR487, Lee showed up with his girlfriend, Cup and Blanco, and his girlfriend's dog. We said hi, bye, and went on our way. There was a little more rain on our way down, but again, not enough to get us wet. The skies were still lit up enough to give some really nice views. The leaves are starting to turn yellow, but not much orange or red anywhere.
Radmila and the kids really enjoyed the hike, the scenery, and the Flintstone furniture. Very nice to get away for the day and enjoy that.
and a good time was had by all. |
