| no partners | | Headed up to Flagstaff this morning with Lily and a friend. Our plan was to hike Kendrick but never actually made it out there. I was driving my friend's car up the 180 and a cyclist swerved into my lane. I swerved into the center lane to avoid him and of course drove over some debris that wrecked one of her tires. I'd like to think that the cyclist swerved to avoid related debris and was not just being an idiot. I changed the flat and we decided rather than driving back down the 17 later on the smallest donut spare anyone has ever seen, we'd just get it taken care of. Discount Tire replaced it for free
It was after noon now and we wanted to get some hiking in and I didn't know how long the forest roads to Kendrick would take us so we changed our plan. We decided to go do the Kachina. It fit all my criteria-- its a pretty trail and I knew how to get there.
We finally got to hiking around 1pm. There were a handful of groups hiking. Everyone was friendly today and almost everyone had really friendly dogs for Lily to say hello to. I happily gave a liter of water I could spare to a backpacker who was with her dogs and in need. We hiked out to the Weatherford junction and back.
Today was much longer than planned but a very nice day. Maybe it was too many beers last night but the Kachina sure felt like more than 1,500 ft. today. |
