Nice day for hunting for fall colors. I wasn't the only one with the same idea either. Saw probably 15-20 people on the part of the trail I hiked (out to about 1.5 mi from the Snowbowl trailhead), plus another 100 (!) cars parked in various pullouts along Snowbowl Rd. Only about a dozen at the trailhead when I started at 12:30pm.

Trail was in good shape and made hiking easy. There was a decent breeze that was blowing a lot of the aspen leaves out of the trees. It made for a nice yellow carpet in places. I read about a fungus on the Coconino NF website that was wreaking havoc with the leaves. I did see a few aspens that had a brownish color, but the vast majority of the trees along the trail appeared to be unaffected.

Love how the forest closes in on this trail; my favorite type of trail. I'm definitely going to have to come back and hike this one end to end.

All of the aspens are solid yellow with a few small hints of orange and red. The breeze was blowing a lot of the leaves out of the trees though. I didn't take a close look, but it looked like there was quite a bit of orange/red over by the Snowbowl beginner area along the lower part of the summit trail.

I'd say this area will be in it's prime from now through another 10 days or so.
