About 2 miles south of the turn for Quartz Peak I ran into two guys in a Jeep Wrangler. They were standing next to the front tire looking at it. I stopped and sure enough a sharp object had punctured their sidewall. The tire was deflating and the guy was stopping the leak with a piece of cloth and his hand. He asked if I had a patch kit. Unfortunately I don't and even worse he had no spare.
I asked if he had a spare at home and he said he did but had taken it out to work on the Jeep. I offered to give him and his friend a ride home to get it and come back. He lived at Cotton Lane and Lower Buckeye. A short 25 miles later we were at his house. Got the tire and back we went. Lucky for them I came along at just the right time.
Two hours later it was noon and time for me to finish what I came for. Going up Quartz was a treat as always however it was so humid that I felt like I took a shower with my cloths on. In just over an hour I was up top enjoying those precious views. Someone has brought a new ammo can since my last visit so I went ahead and signed in. Saw "The Dude" signed in a little over a month ago.
I could hike this one over and over and probably never get tired of it. The drive in is another story. |
