We drove to the trailhead from the south. We used the GPS route posted here, and it worked like a charm! I was glad to have the route, as Google Maps likes to make things into roads that are not quite roads!! Anyway, we had no issues getting to the trailhead. It was a sandy drive through many washes. There was no one at the trailhead but us. Nice new vault bathroom and picnic table. :) In fact, the welcome trailhead sign was nicer than many I have seen. Maybe it is because the area is remote and not as many people come to vandalize it? Or maybe it is just new.

We slogged up mountain. And kept slogging. And eventually, we made it to quartz peak. We enjoyed looking through the box of stuff. The most fun item was a message in a bottle that said, "Happy Easter from The Peeps". There was also a yellow marshmallow Peep in a plastic bag. Ha! :D  My favorite thing about this hike was the amazing quartz!!! We had a snack at the top and enjoyed the views. Then, we headed down. On the way down, I had already went through 100 oz of water (!!!) and had to go onto the reserves. It was a bit of a hot day for this hike given the sun beating down on you incessantly. The upside to the sun was that all the mica was shining beautifully in the sun! :) The sparkly trail was truly a site to behold. :)

We enjoyed a nice cold gatorade from the cooler when we got back to the car. We didn't see a soul the entire day, as we were still the only ones parked at the trailhead. It was nice to have solitude on a hike for a change! :) My friends weren't originally loving this hike (slog slog slog), but now they want to go back! :D Our hike over, we began our long drive back to the Valley!
