| no partners | | It has been almost a year since I hit Picacho, and today was the day. Pulled into the park about 3:30 after my Tucson jaunt and started heading up. I met a good 30 trailworkers coming down just as I started up, and then only saw a handful of people after that. Good grind up to the saddle without stopping, seems like they have added a switchback or two to the trail on the front side since last I did this...I went over to the northern end of the summit first to have a look around, and then aimed up for the top. Had the summit to myself and took a good break, almost a half an hour. I ran into a hiker right on the way down and ended up chatting with him the whole way back. Good to get some impromptu company! I also ran into 4 older teen/ early 20's guys that were huffing it up the back side, I did my best to let them know they still had a ways to go and light was running out quick, but I am guessing they did not heed my advice. Sun set a few minutes after I got off the trail, took a little break and headed on back to Phoenix. Still traffic in the tunnel even at 7:15... ](https://hikearizona.com/dex2/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif) |
