This hike was to fulfill two purposes; 1 - I wanted to ease my hip back into things and 2 - One of my goals this year is to hit at least 52 unique trails. Since I started hiking I generally keep to my own backyard and want to expand on that this year.

When I got to the trailhead and warmed up a bit before the hike; as my route will surely show. I wanted to make sure that I did not overdo it and further aggravate the hip. I am starting to formulate what might have caused the issues. Dropping a 28.75 mile hike onto these legs, with my longest hike in the past 6 months being Humphreys, may have been asking too much of them. Or I just didn't give them enough time to recover before beating on them 3 days later. Either way, I will alter my routine to compensate for both shortcomings as I start working on the AZT. I need to up my mileage per hike (which this hike accomplishes) and I will need at least a week or so to recover afterwards. That week or so will be the harder of the two. I am not very good at forcing myself to rest generally.

The actual hike was neat in that it gave me the mileage and workout I was looking for. I went in a counterclockwise direction from the Meridian Trailhead. The views of Superstition and Picketpost were quite impressive in the morning. I am sure the view of Four Peaks in snow would have been killer from the lookout point just below the saddle. Other than that this hike is not my cup of tea at all. This would make for a near training one for the AZT, doing multiple loops, but I am not entirely sure I'd have the stomach for that.
