A trip to Horton Creek with some co-workers was canceled so I saved myself a few hours and went to Usery Mountain to hike the Pass Mtn loop instead. The Pass Mountain loop was my go to hike when I first moved here 4 years ago. It will always be an old friend.

The pungent smell of wet creosote greeted me when I arrived at the Wind Cave TH. It was damp and humid from overnight rains, but also relatively cool and it felt wonderful. Even after the sun was high enough in the sky to heat things up, a cooling breeze kept things just right.

The hike around the mountain was awesome. Just enough haze and low lying clouds in the distance to offer amazing layered views of the Goldfield mtns and beyond. I finished around 8:30 with temps still below 80. Beautiful hike, and I saved myself a few hours of driving time.
