Being on winter break makes that proposition very difficult when I have the time to actually get out there. I decided that I wanted to do something easy and less strenuous on my knee. I invited my fiance along for the trip as it would be a fun outing for both of us.
The journey up was nice, cool in the first half a mile but then quickly warming up. She had worn her down vest thingamabob and had to quickly pack that. Making the Wind Cave we sat around for a bit and enjoyed the view and refueled. I wasn't sure if we were going to head up to the top but after a quick discussion she was quite enthusiastic about the prospect.
The journey to the top was fun and quick. Surprisingly, a good number of people had the same idea. Thankfully, however, they stopped at the outcropping that veers out south of the peak and provides pretty amazing views of Superstition.
Upon reaching the peak we took a seat and absorbed the views. It was her first peak that she has bagged so that was pretty exciting. I decided to venture out on that one spine that juts out south of the peak. I've always wanted to head out on it but never have. it provided quite the views straight down the sheer cliffs
On the way back to the trailhead she rolled her ankle pretty hard but was quite the trooper and managed the rest of the way down after short break. |
