It's a bushwack up to the ridge across 260 from Thirteenmile Rock Butte, and down the ridge to the ruin area. Lots of elk sign and the ancient village had a nice setting on a flat section of ridge. I first came to quite a few (10?) single room ruins which were really just overgrown rockpiles generally with a recognizable perimeter. Pottery pieces were common but I didn't see any petroglyphs, lithics, or grinding areas.
Past most of the ruin rooms, nearer the west edge cliff was a massive but not very tall rock wall that ran clear across the mesa. Must have been a defensive wall - unusual to try to partition off the whole ridge away from the cliff edge. Continuing along to the cliff there was another couple rooms and more defensive walls. Hard to figure out what was going on back then...didn't get along with the neighbors I guess. |
