Joe's plan had us checking out "The Doghouse", Briggs Site, "The Box", Copperopolis (Site, Mine, Cemetery) and the Rockhouse. I added Issac Bradshaw's Grave site, that's been on my todo list for awhile.
The weather could not have been much better. We got dripped on a few times, but the majority of the storm stayed away until we were driving out.
The Doghouse - broken down wooden structure, corral, metal outbuilding and dry spring box.
Briggs - nothing but a few rock walls and foundations.
The Box - A sweet high walled canyon
Issac Bradshaw Grave - The brother of William Bradshaw, he was the second Bradshaw to mine the Silver Mountains. After william's death, Issac mined the Silver Mountains that were then renamed to the Bradshaw Mountains.
Copperopolis site - At the Topo location there is only an old filled in mine.
Copperopolis Cemetery - The fenced grave of Annie May White (Sister of Newt). There are reportedly 10 - 12 additional graves in the area. We were not aware of them at the time and they were not obvious.
Copperopolis Mine - We entered a long mine shaft from the wash below the ruins of a rock building.
If you go 4 musts..
A bright light, a mask to keep the fine dust out of your nose and mouth, you can't have a fear of bats and you have to be able to put up with the stench.
We went in about 100 yards before turning around.
There is a Vertical shaft which can be seen above, that appears to be apart of the same mine.
The Rockhouse - It's up on a hill out of Banty Creek. At about 20' x 20', the rock structure is mostly fallen down.
Close to the intersection of Banty Creek and Castle Creek was another Rock structure that was intact and has been used recently.
Another fun day in a new area of the Bradhaw's... |
