| partners | | Decided to head to the Rim Country to show my son Ben and Doodle one of the popular ones. We opted for the Derrick-Horton Loop, starting at the Derrick TH.
Perfect weather throughout. Temps stayed in the 60's to low 60's all hike. We had the Derrick all to ourselves and we passed only 3 people on the way to Horton. This is a nice section of trail.
I warned my son that Horton would have a few more people on it. When we got to the spring, at 11am, there were around 6 groups there. Plus there was a group camping 100yds south of the spring. We mozzied around for awhile and then decided to follow the creek down for awhile, instead of the trail. Pretty easy going and we were able to have lunch away from the crowds.
I like this place a bunch. Sure there's more people than a lot of the places I hike, but still real sweet. Someone mentioned that it was busier than normal, because it was on TV recently as being one of the best places in the state to day hike. Hikers on this day were from 5 to 75 and all shapes and sizes.
Always great hiking with my one boys. |
