| no partners | | Hadn't been here since 2002 and decided to relive some of that last trip.
The roads are just as bad as ever.170C to 170F which I think is the old road down to the canyon from the east is still there. I drove as far as I could. Had to get the chainsaw out three times to clear deadfall. At the end, the road was obviously decommissioned by the FS, presumably somewhere around 1965 when the dam was constructed. But there is a bypass that beefy OHVs are able to get around. No signs or gates prevent passage, but it's fairly obvious that this road is not intended for use anymore. Same as I remember it from nearly 15 years ago.
So I went by foot down and out to the spectacular view point. Honestly, one of the best views in the state.
Made eye contact with a very healthy black bear on the drive out about five miles north of Forest Lakes along FR170. He froze and then decided he was supposed to run!  |
