| partners | | Chums put together a sampler route to this special place that I'd never been to.
We drove to the blocked-off end of FR237 and started the short road hike to our drop-in route down to the bottom of Chevelon Canyon. We got off "route" a bit at the top but worked our way down.
Chevelon Canyon has numerous pools for fishing and many great campsites for those inclined to backpack down, and more importantly, back up the steep canyon exits. There are many use trails at the bottom, but be prepared to get your feet wet and do some rock hopping.
We took a lunch break where the canyon bottom meets the Telephone trail and then retraced our steps to make the climb up Larson Ridge from the north. It gets steep, but if you keep an eye out for the cairns, you'll make your way through the maze to the top.

The rock outcropping at the top was a highlight for me. A great overview of the entire canyon area. Wow.

A short closed-road walk back to the truck to complete our day. Up top, we could smell/see smoke from the Valentine fire, burning below the rim.
Thanks, Chums; I enjoyed my Chevelon teaser. Chums was upset on the way out that his harem had exited the area. |
