| no partners | | I took the mountain bike up to Chevelon again, this time to explore FR236. After a little fruitless fishing in Willow Springs lake, I started off from 237 onto 236 on the bike. The road is nice all the way to the end, maybe 4-5 miles. There are a few nice campsites here. With no obvious trail leading down I began walking out the area with the least grade possible, but that eventually became a cliff, so after some more exploring I did find a cairn with some obvious activity around it. The route is a littered mess of downfall with intermittent spots of obvious trail. Arriving at the bottom and no bleeding from the legs, I considered it a success, until I started to think of climbing out the next day... Very nice area with numerous spots to camp up and downstream. I found a nice spot by Horse Trap to camp and set up the tarp to get out of a downpour at about 1PM. The rain lasted about an hour but looked like more on the way. With fishing prospects looking bleak, I decided to hike back out, bike back to the truck, and drive down to Horton Creek to camp somewhere. Quiet night there, and was able to catch a limit of trout in Tonto creek Sunday morning, before the swimmers arrived... |
