Got an invite from Hank to join him up on the Rim for some camping and hiking. Unfortunately he was unable to attend, but Larry, Kyle, and myself went up Thursday for a couple days. Whole new area for me, so I was happy to be there. The further east of SR87 I went on FR300 the fewer people were seen. I would say this zone sort of in the middle of the drive along the Rim is the best if you don't want crowds.

Kyle and his friend rolled in during the evening and stayed the night, before heading off on a backpack Friday morning. Short hike with Larry Friday, otherwise enjoyed just relaxing at camp. I left Saturday morning at 10:30, and continued east on the Rim Road until I hit SR260. Then it was down FR512 to Young and SR288 through the Sierra Anchas to SR188 and on to Globe.

It was nice to spend some time with Larry and to get caught up on all things gossip and conspiracy related ;) (and thanks for hanging on to that windbreaker I left in your vehicle like two years ago :lol: ). Enjoyed getting to meet Kyle and his friend and talk about books, politics, and history before they headed out on their backpack. :)

Low temperature Friday morning was 38 degrees, followed by 37 degrees Saturday morning. Afternoon high Thursday was 75 degrees and 78 degrees Friday.

As hard as it is to believe, this was the first time I had ever been on the Rim Road #300 to experience those awesome vistas! :o Finally driving that road was the highlight of the trip for me. :D
