Waited until Sunday so the threat of thunderstorms would be removed, but was hoping for some cloudiness to help deal with the fierce June sun. It was still pretty warm in the lower portions of the hike (not a lot of tree cover to help on this one), but from about the turnoff to Carr Peak over to the Crest Trail junction a nice cool breeze was enjoyed. Also, as hoped, enough clouds developed to provide some additional relief on the way back. Skipped going to the peak, but will do so in late July or August when I return to enjoy the summer flower show. Saw nobody on the trail until encountering a few folks on the way back down.
For those who are thinking of doing this hike to enjoy its great flower display, remember to wait until at least the last week of July, and preferably August to early September for the best. It takes about a month of summer rains to fully develop, and in the case of the nice run of columbine up in the aspen zone, they don't rock the trail until then. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated Almost none in lower portion and isolated from the aspen area on up to the Crest (most prevalent tick clover). |
