| no partners | | Every time I visit New Mexico I come away with good feelings about the place. This time was no different.
In less than 24 hours at City of Rocks, I saw four javelinas, three pronghorns, two deer, and best of all one young and unafraid kit fox! That was on top of all the usual suspects - raven and other birds, lizards, cottontails and jackrabbits, and one very healthy rattlesnake that made time to come say hi at my campsite.
Hiking and scrambling around, over, and through the boulders was a blast.
The facilities are nice and clean, and other than the little RV park section, the campsites are really cool and fun, tucked up in among the rocks. I had reserved a site ahead because I didn't know if it would be crowded, but it seems like the first come sites are better. I was very happy with my spot in Pegasus, but walking around later found several sites I liked more - #30 was my favorite. This Friday night in September had plenty of open sites.
Lots more hiking and biking and bouldering to be done there, and especially with all the great wildlife, I will definitely be returning! |
