While in the Silver City area we went to the City of Rocks State Park. Planned on hiking all the trails in the park which would be about 10 miles but with the wind and cold temps opted to just hike the Table Mountain Trail. This is probably the best trail to get great views over the park to the West and to the East the Mimbres River Valley and Cookes Peak. The 2 mile trail to the peak is in great shape but is really rocky, the rollie rock type, easy to twist an ankle on. The trail seemed longer than it needed to be to get to the peak though, in my head while hiking it I could imagine a couple of routes that would probably make this a 1 mile hike in. Opted not to do the loop trail around the park because of the weather and the loop trail doesn't look all that interesting. We hiked the short trail through the rock formations last time we were here. Back to Faywood Hot Springs where we were staying to soak in the water.
