| no partners | | New territory fun ... 3rd new National Monument this year, etc, etc.
Really nice little campground - Bonita - including the host and myself, there were 7 of the 24 sites occupied. For such a small campground, they have a really nice amphitheater - on par with the one at Watchman in Zion. Also the group campsite rocks - biggest grills I've ever seen. All facilities in the Park were spotless. Only negative is no hammock hanging allowed.
Hiked the Boots & Burgers trip. Heart of Rocks is stunning, and the trail more scrambley and fun than I expected. Really good hiking park ... would be nicer still if all the creekbeds were not bone dry.
Saw tons of Coues deer, Mexican jays, and my first Montezuma quails.
Tony the campground host is fun to talk to. He told me that illegals were in the park the day before, but didn't know if it was legal for me to carry my gun - suggested I ask a LE Ranger ... cool, I was looking for a reason to talk to her! She said yes it's legal, and she recommends it. |
