| no partners | | After a very long and upsetting night and collapsing into bed at 2am, I was up at my usual 6:30 and had a good cry before getting out of bed (I wish I were kidding). I then proceeded to engage in a couple hours of MSNBC-watching and commiserating on Facebook ... eventually I realized that it was enough and I REALLY needed to get out.
I desired warm, sunny, open, empty, quiet space - so I headed for Gila Box. It was exactly what I needed.
I parked at Bonita Creek and just wandered on the Cottonwood Trail and through the campground (much nicer than I had anticipated!) then sat under a tree for a while and watched the River go by ... checked out the Flying W area (also very nice - good facilities, clean/maintained,good River access) then back and up the wildlife trail.
Three campsites were occupied, but I only saw one lady on the trail, and the host driving around working ... nobody else for hours.
The River was chocolate milky today - flowing at about 230 cfs - looked great for kayaking ... I really want to do the short float from Serna Cabin to Dry Canyon now! Its about three miles, so a good intro to river kayaking. Has anyone done that? Does anyone want to?
Riverview Campground would be an ideal place to do star/moon photography. I might go stay there to play with my new camera after I get it tomorrow. Also just the place to soak up abundant sunshine in the winter.
Happy to report that my new Alien Gear holster gets a big thumbs up! It's very comfortable and holds securely ... doesn't slide around and need readjusted like the cheap nylon one did.
Didn't see many birds or any mammals - loads of raccoon and/or coati tracks though.
Felt much better during and after the hike - wilderness therapy to the rescue again! |
