Decided against the debated upon kayaking trip today - mostly due to cold water/air temp combo ... I get cold easily.
Chad said he was going either way!
Coincidentally I ended up at Serna Cabin at the same time Chad and Sabrina showed up to drop off their boats at the put-in. We chatted for a while, then I headed up Bonita Creek and they drove back to Dry Canyon take-out to drop off the truck.
I found the going very slow in this trailess section of Bonita ... a few minutes upstream of the lookout platform I found myself in the midst of a troop of 20-30 coatimundi's! :y:

I hunkered down with the camera while they went about their business all around me for about 20 minutes - only got two decent photos because they were always moving in and out of the trees and brush. A couple times they got into tiffs with much grunting and squealing, then one unknowingly approached within five feet of me - when he realized I was there, he panicked a bit and fled noisily along with the rest.
Happy with that little hike, I decided to head back and try to catch Chad and Sabrina setting off - timed it perfectly! I was a little nervous for them, as the put-in spot was pretty sporty - and especially since Sabrina had never done anything like that before. Well, she got spun around and flipped right away.

Luckily, neither she nor the kayak was injured and they were able to continue.
Met them at Dry Canyon and heard all about the adventure, which went very well after that rocky start! :app:
