The trail starts at Rogers Trough Trail Head after a grueling 18 mile drive up Hewitt Canyon Road (High clearance required and Four wheel recommended). The trail heads down Rogers canyon before meeting up with the Reavis Ranch Trail. The trail heads up the side canyon for about .6 miles before climbing the hill to Reavis Saddle. It is where the trail starts to Climb that Elisha (Elilsha) Reavis is Burried (May 1896). He died along the trail on one of his many treks from Reavis Ranch to Florence. Recommend looking up Elisha Reavis on the internet he was quite a character. They also have picture of his cabin as it was a few years back before it burned. I will forever change my thinking about the Superstition mountains after this hike, it is not what I always imagined. Water was plentiful and the trail well marked and maintained. |
