The AZT used to follow Thicket Spring Trail #95 to Peeley TH but now follows the Cornucopia Trail #86. From Peeley we followed Thicket Spring over to McFarland Spring area. The trail is overgrown and need of clearing now that's it's not part of the AZT. Took a lunch break at McFarland which had plenty of water flowing in the creek. As has been the theme this spring there was water everywhere in just about every drainage we crossed.
Leaving McFarland we headed over to the realigned section of AZT on Cornucopia Trail and first time for us on this section. The realignment adds more mileage but there is less elevation and it follows the drainage which had plenty of water flowing with occasional cascades. Eventually the trail closes the loop and it was back to Peeley TH. We did have a surprise snow/sleet shower move through lasting only 5 minutes but cool to see. |
