This is the second half of a day and a short round trip hike from Hay Meadow to Forest Service Road 82. From Hay Meadow the trail heads up a ridge about 100 feet high and crosses over on the north side into a stream that the trail will follow, heading up stream. The trail along this stream is fairly level with a very slight uphill slope. I got the impression the trail was following an old railroad bed, which is possible since there use to be quite a few in this area built for logging. Beautiful hike along a pine tree forest.
