I had heard about Carrington Rock while growing up near here; many stories mentioned how many copperhead snakes the hikers encountered along the way. Since I spent most of my youth trying to find ways to limit my physical activity (i.e., get out of work on our tobacco farm), I never quite got the urge to complete it. Now, since my attitude is quite the opposite, meaning I look for ways to get exercise, I wanted to do it. It's difficult to find much sustained elevation in the mostly peneplain terrain that characterizes east central Kentucky, but this fits the bill for a short blow on a trail. Highly recommend it if you're in the area. However, don't expect to see anything but trees till you reach the summit. |
