I did not revisit the trail specs ahead of time so it was longer and higher gain than I remembered, or I’m just more out of shape :P Didn’t help that it was of course 15 degrees above normal on the day of our reservation.
Permit parking for us was at the bridge so we had an extra 1-2 miles before we got to the TH. But no worries. Still an excellent hike and a great day spent. The water was crystal clear as usual and we found a great private swimming hole where we rested and had a nice swim. The water was chilly but nothing crazy. Had the unique pleasure of having the fish nibble at my legs once in a while which was interesting.
Not too much wildlife, the ubiquitous small lizards, turkey vultures, and a pretty good size hawk. Hardly any flowers, just a few on the little cacti just starting to pop.
Great day out at one of Arizona’s beautiful rare natural wonders. |
