| no partners | | 2 F of a 4 F weekend. True southern rednecks will know what this references to. Warning, might be a lot of complaining in triplog and photo captions. Tweaked my back earlier this week. By weekend looked like I might be ok, had a short backpack planned with the rains that would be in a good southeastern Az location.
Drive in, of course in middle of nowhere flat tire. C rated tires SUCK, don't care if Goodyear, BFG or whatever. 10 ply tires I would have pulled out the metal and kept on trucking. Lost time on the tire change, then tried to patch it, which I could not do, if I'd been able to do that would have gone on. My back started screaming at me then.
Back into town, found a place that patched it but would not guarantee would hold up. MF'r C rated tires.
Anyhow, since out this way drove to another spot. I had been given a lead on an alcove, cave that might be a burial site. Lead was way old, and the source doubtful. My back was angry but a lot of times walking with a pack on settles it down. Not this time. Probably the off trail crossing little washes then sidehilling up to the cliff face. Mult openings, one guarded by a bee hive, fortunately they did not attack, probably enjoying the rain and pleasant temps. Got into a very large alcove with dark corners and a little passage. Not very enjoyable due to the large bat dung hill smelling up everything, but the little darlings were not present. Obviously had been dug, one corn cob and very few pot shards. Started raining so I waited here a little, then decided to hike just covering cameras and pack as my poncho not going to do it crossing steep scree slope, weeds, cactii etc.
Jeep seemed very far away but I enjoyed my dousing as I had a change of clothes in the car.
Well, my back is still not happy but I hope a consistent short high dose of Ibuprofen and behaving myself does it. |
