| no partners | | Camo'd out as I had a stealth hike to do. Didn't start out well as I heard a helicopter but seemed to be on the ground nearby; could not see it. Some old graves near Ruby, supposedly older and possibly Spanish in nature so I had been told. It was on FS land but you had to circumvent the private property. Green and lush down here and water pretty much everywhere.
Lots of grasshoppers, and spiders. I hit on an old road not being driven so took that in part. I noted some spiders had their webs parallel to the remaining tread of the old road; I dubbed these the smart spiders. The stupid spiders put their web across and thus lost it as I came through, the same if it had been cows or deer. I had a skort on and I don't like spiders and got tired of them on my legs. Found three rocked humps in the grass I took to be the graves. Also happened across a couple of prospects and some pretty rock.
I got back to the FJ with my legs looking like a cat had attacked me, the usual. Drove on to check the 10th Cav Site, all the placards still up, and more small flags placed at most of the graves. If my research is correct these young men have been sleeping here 100 years in 2018, perhaps 101.
Last year with Randy I noted pottery shards in the area. Today I found a lot more and one piece as large as my hand. I wonder if these men are buried on an old habitation site. Perhaps the stones used were part of old structure. I think I need to try again to contact the Ft Huachuca historian.
I drove on out and stopped at another abandoned claim. With all the vegetation it was hard to see all the stuff. More old vehicles. It was warm and I was not motivated to do more mine hikes which I had sort of planned. It was just gorgeous out here, so green, with all the heavy dew I was hiking in waist high vegetation at time, my boots soaked and wet up to my waist.
It's my private Idaho I sometimes feel like, still some to explore. Saw one border patrol agent parked at the side of the road and that was it on the dirt. Supposed to get more rain and I will likely be down here again, as the Hellsgate will probably be full of pools. |
