Early drive in, dark, hunter meadow vague shapes of Rv's etc. Creek had water in it in some crossings, very nice, and saw a yogi butt running away from the edge of my headlights for a few feet before disappearing in brush. Parked, and in the slowly increasing light hiked up to the Aspen Grove. I was alone on the trail, reminded me of years earlier where I could hike in here and see no one for the day. Not anymore this time of year. The Aspens had a few leaves, the wind had knocked down quite a bit of wood on the trail, and some of the maple growth taking over on the trail. Running water low in the canyon. As I like to do then took to the canyon bottom on the return to take photos of the incredible leaf litter. A few people hiking up as I came down, but I was off trail and they did not see me. I call the canyon return canyoning lite, a little scramble and butt scoot; some pools. One pool I know well by now, it is still and not deep but always leaf covered this time of year, it doesn't look like a pool. The first time I stepped in it, wet shoes, socks lower legs. One time I dropped a camera in it and killed it; no bueno. I've fallen in it, because the area is very photogenic and I tend to forget about it. I skirted it properly this time, no incidents.
I took to the trail in spots where it crosses. Coming out ran into Belinda ( Grotto Girl) very nice to meet her and others, I recognized her from photos on here. I walked along the little running creek, rare for here, on the hike out.
Never tire of this place this time of year. Someday I will not be able to get here; or it will burn. I enjoy these places while I can experience them, still enjoy the new and different too. |
