| partners | | john and i are looking for new territory these days
after my hike with tibber last sunday, was looking at all the trails in the same area
wolverton was one part of longer hikes that the three amigos (bruce, joe, denny) and kingsnake had done
plus, it had a peak along the way
got going around 0730 with clear skies and temps in the 50s
a gradual uphill took the chill off
the first couple miles wind through oak and pine trees on a good trail
then a couple of miles through a burn area, exposure more noticeable on the return
had a portion of bruce's track loaded but really didn't need it
the description makes it seem like there might be some route finding due to unmarked trails
maybe because it's part of the prescott circle trail, the route is obvious and well signed
kingsnake had recommended at visit to quartz mountain, so we made that side trip first
well worth a stop, with some beautiful rock on the summit and good views of the entire prescott area
continued west to the wolverton mountain turnoff
made the quick trip to the top and enjoyed a snack break in a little area with a bench
dropped back down and went to the junction with aspen creek trail, where angela and i were last weekend
the last mile was back in mixed forest
views of mt. francis, granite mountain and thumb butte along the way
almost all downhill on the return, finishing to a packed trailhead around 1130
enjoyed the trail, but the two side trips really made the hike
nice area, fun to do something new and different, and definitely more to explore
john bought lunch at the raven - cool place, good food
good times! thanks, john |
