Weekend 1, the 6 mile segment from Aspen Creek TH to White Spar Campground. We left my truck at the White Spar Campground and my wife drove us over the Aspen Creek TH. There were warnings on the way about high clearance and what not, it seemed like a typical sedan would be fine, at least when it's dry. Right off the bat, trail #48 dips into a dry creek area with fall colors (a real treat for our first fall after moving from Phoenix) and boulders, It's a pretty gentle climb for about two miles, then we took a little detour to the peak of Wolverton Mtn, or close to it... there's a fenced off section with razor wire up there that I expect is a decommissioned microwave tower or something, it's not a great peak to arrive at, but it's a short easy detour, so why not. We saw a trail maintenance crew out there and could see they had cut the vegetation way back. The rest of the hike was downhill and made for really easy walking. You get great views of most of the Prescott area from up there and somehow we could see Humphreys better than from our house, which is closer. The trail was easy to follow and though it had some offshoot trails, the signs were very clear. |
