| no partners | | I like this route up to Humphreys much better than going up from Snowbowl, so I decided to take a small group on this hike. I was hoping to see some yellow aspen leaves, and we were not disappointed.
It was incredibly windy up on Humphreys -- I had trouble standing up on the last part of the ascent, and it may have been the strongest wind that I have ever been in.
The views were nice on Humphreys -- there lots of pockets of yellow aspen leaves down below. You could see smoke from a couple of Rx burns looking to the SW.
On the way back a couple of fast hikers in the group missed the turn to the Inner Basin on the Weatherford Trail, and they wound up going to Schultz Pass. Fortunately one of them had parked his car at a McDonalds on Highway 89, and they managed to catch a ride with someone from Schultz Pass to the McDonalds.

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial There were lots of yellow leaves at the higher elevations. The leaves were mostly green in the lower part of the Inner Basin when you go through the swithbacks in the grove of aspen leaves, so those will look much better in a week or so. |
