With the temps close to 110 in the VOS, I decided to head down to Madera Canyon and hike up to Mount Wrightson.

This is a tough little hike -- you ascend about 4,000 feet in roughly 5.5 miles. The trail is in good condition though, which helps.

This is the second year in a row that I hiked this in mid-September, and the goldeneyes put on a show both times. However, this year they were a little past their prime.

there were quite a few goldeneyes in bloom, especially between Baldy Saddle and the Wrightson summit
