| no partners | | I took a small group of hikers to do the Abineau-Bear Jaw Loop, and I managed to persuade to take an off trail side trip up to Rees Peak. The trek up to Rees was the best part of the hike imho.
We did the loop clockwise, and once we got to the Bear Jaw Trail-Waterline Road junction we went uphill to Rees. The climb up is a bit steep, but it is not too bad. At the lower part there are some downed trees that you have to get around or over, but it is not too bad. As you gain some elevation the downed trees are a thing of the past, and the route is more straightforward. Shortly after beginning the climb there is what looks like the remnants of an avalanche -- I went to the west of this so as not to have to deal with the rocks.
There were some nice views at the top -- aspen leaves were in their autumn splendor, so there were lots of pockets of yellow looking down toward the Inner Basin and down below Fremont.
We all signed the summit log book, and when I opened the book I saw that Chumley and Mountain Matt had signed it in October, 2017.
Next time that I climb up to Rees I plan to also go up to Aubineau Peak. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial There were lots of yellow aspen leaves at the higher elevations. |
