Reading some triplogs before I do my own and it looks like the Supes. was the place to be this Thanksgiving weekend. Got to the First Water TH just after 6am. It was still dark, but a near full moon made a headlamp unnecessary. Jogged in on the Dutchman, though it was slow going due to TH semi darkness a rocky nature of the trail. I uploaded the route for this hike. I didn't need it for the Dutchman, but I did do a little zigzagging trying to find the correct turn off for the "off trail" ascent. I got to say that those picture that Fritzski added really make a diffence in helping to confirm one's path. Trying to guide one's steps by referring to a downloaded route can be very tedious and time consuming. Once I saw the "narrow opening" as pictured I knew I was I on the right path and was soon able to pick up a faint trail that I was able to follow thereafter. The climb was pretty much as described: up and a bit brushy, but not too bad on the later. I was surprised at the amount of exposure when I reached the top. I didn't get that impression from the side I was ascending on. Also, I was surprised at how craggy the top was. All very climbable, if you are ok with the exposure that come with it. As I am not a heights person I did a modicum of scrambling. I would have loved to do more if the drops weren't so precipitous . I got a couple of pictures of the arch and walked a little ways along the spine to the arch, but the east side dropped off pretty quickly so I didn't get very far. The spine is pretty wide (3-5ft) so I imagine that height tolerant people can get pretty close to the arch. Made my down easier than I anticipated. Without realizing it, I ended up following a different thread down. When I reached the Dutchman I jogged back to the TH. Didn't see anyone going out. But on the way back met 26 hikers on the Dutchman. Parking lot was near capacity when I got back. Great hike. Wish I had a little more comfort with heights so I could have more fun when I get to the top.
