| partners | | I sent a PM to Bruce to wish him a Happy Birthday and then weaseled my way into one of the best days ever. The hike was pretty good too.
I joined Joe and Bruce with low expectations of making it to the North Fork. I wasn’t sure about my conditioning and I’ve been dealing with a sore knee. I was happy to go to Barnhardt Falls, maybe the divide trail, then turn around. This hike started so good, and kept getting better, that I didn’t think about my conditioning or my knee until Bruce asked me how I was doing when we reached the divide trail, maybe beyond that. I felt great and had no intention of turning around.
Snow, icy conditions and more water than I’ve seen here dominated the trail up to the divide. The trails are great in spots, tedious in spots and just plain running water for large sections on the divide trail to the fork. I was fine with getting wet.
The gem on this hike was the North Fork. We spent a bunch of time there. It’s a cool place without water, but spectacular with water. One of those places at just the right time where you don’t want to leave.
The return was as much fun as the hike out. I didn’t notice how tired I was until I tried to stretch at the end. Oh yeah, this is going to hurt. We ran into some other HAZ’ers on the return, Daniel and Mirage1. Nice to meet you both.
Joe and Bruce, thanks as always for letting me slow you down. This was truly a gorgeous day in paradise; your company was even better. |
