| partners | | This is a good hike for so many reasons. One of my favorites. We try to time the hike based on snow and snow melt.
Two weeks ago, there was plenty of fresh snow on top of the Mazzy's. 10 days ago would have been prime.
Hawaiian Mist was dry as we passed it and a small group of people were enjoying the slight flow of Big Kahuna Falls. One of those, was HAZ member @Hiking_Fool. Good to meet you and the some of the Kickers of Kactus.
This is one of those trails where you don't have to constantly be looking at your feet and are able to take in the surounding geology. We were lucky enough to have shade for quite a bit of the climb.
On the way to and from the twins, us slackpackers passed 3 solo and a group of 4 AZT through hikers.
The Twins were flowing at the slowest rate of any of the trips I've taken to them. We sat at our normal lunch spot on top of Deadman. You get some really nice views down the North Fork of Deadman Creek.
Close to Chilson Camp, Joe was hell bent at trying to convince me that the Brody Seep Trail was called Chilson Trail. I let him have it, so he would quiet down. I actually had to bring back the JBM on this hike. It was spiking between a 7 and 8.
We sat to take a break on the way down. I got bit or stung on the thigh by something unknown. I felt it immediately.
3 days later, it's still the size of a 1/2 dollar, itchy, swollen, red and hot. I sure would like to know what it was. |
