Walked in past the gate and began cutting the thorny flora where the connector trail descends off the road, across from the gravel pile. Next up, an ancient encroacher log that has been there for years. Pruning saws where the only weapon on hand, but we made do. A few paces beyond that a large sycamore had succumbed to the snow load and was hanging into the trail corridor. Short on tools but long on ambition, we managed. Then just brushing the intruding limbs as we made our way south to Sycamore Creek crossing, where we had lunch and encountered thru-hiker Adam. We went another mile or so south to visit some deep pools in Boulder Creek, then returned via the washed out road. ATV's can get over it, we saw 5 that had come in from Reno Pass, only to find the gate locked, but regular vehicles will have to wait for the dozer to smooth out the big steps. |
