Came across three coues deer fawns and a doe early into the hike which is always a spectacle to see since the young deer are no bigger than a small dog, real life “Bambi”.
Made it the target area after a lot of zig zag meandering and hiked the sweet ridge that led up to the unique flat pennisula overlooking the canyon.
Sure enough when up top I was greeted with the awesome sight of about eight separate rock wall rooms, most of which were completely dilapidated to the point only the perimeter is visible but one still had walls nearly four feet high.
On the way back I bumped a herd of elk that I only caught a glimpse of, shortly after that spooked a solid bull that ran off and just moments after that walked up on a sweet bull deadhead that was the icing on the already great day in the backcountry! |
