Surprised to see the rock south of the saddle is slabs of gray granite, fractured and weathering beautifully. The rock north of the saddle, including 2429, is that dirty reddish-brown rock. Hadn't noticed that before. I thought the second peak south is the prettiest with a small palo verde on top and numerous red-spined compass barrel growing through cracks in a large granite slab on the east. And there is a nice unobstructed view to south along the other peaks in the chain. All that but no comfortable place to sit. Plan to go on south to the other peaks when I have more time. It was well after sunset when I got back to the 40th Street parking lot. |
