Used a headlamp for at least 45 minutes or so. Steady stream of hikers on our way down. As the morning brightened, my daughter was getting more and more excited by the views. Easy hike down for her, and we shed some layers about 3 miles in.
At Indian Garden, we headed out to Plateau Point, where we took our first real break of the day and had a quick snack. After that, we headed back to IG, where I spread a blanket out in some grass by the creek, and we took a long break for my daughter to rest before we headed back up.
Pretty toasty as we left IG, and not a cloud in the sky all day, but occasional shade and breeze helped. It cooled off as we climbed, and the shade increased. I let my daughter lead, and we kept a slow steady pace, with occasional short breaks, and made decent time out. I was thinking we’d finish by 1800, and it turned out we were back at the car by 1500.
My daughter was tired but happy, and declared this her favorite hike yet. She’s already asking when we can go again. Fun hike with her, and she did a great job. My track bounced around some in the switchbacks, so I shaved a mile off the recorded total, as 15 miles seemed way too high. |
