| no partners | | I have never done this hike before, and decided to do it in the morning before heading back to the VOS.
It turned out to be a nice hike -- although I have gone up the Bright Angel Trail a number of times, this was the first time that I have descended down Bright Angel.
I wore microspikes down to the 1.5 mile rest house. There was much less snow than there was on the Grandview Trail the day before. There weren't many people on the trail, so it was a nice hike down. There were 2 people at Plateau Point, and the views were nice there. I hung out there for a bit before heading back up.
There were several people on the trail on the way up, but not too many. People were polite and practicing good hiker etiquette, except for the person with the dog on the trail.
I was in the shade virtually the entire hike, except for out on Plateau Point. The thermometer at Indian Garden registered 43 when I got down there, and it was at 45 on my way back up.
On the way back up I stopped and put my spikes on with less than a mile to go
I enjoyed the hike, and it was nice not to have to deal with catching a shuttle to the South Kaibab TH, which is the main reason that I did this one. |
